NOTE: In order for this process to work with your local printer, that printer needs to be known to socrates. Your printer needs to be running IP protocols, be capable to doing lpr and have been added to the list of printers socrates can print to. Even so, this process may not be workable in every case.Last updated 10/21/04When you log in to socrates and start up gcg, you must choose a printer.
- To designate a printer for the current session only, type setplot at the prompt.
- To designate a printer for all of your sessions, type autosetplot at the prompt.
When you select setplot you will see the following list of available printers and commands:
![]()
You can then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll up and down the list. Select the printer you wish to activate and press return.
When you use the autosetplot command, the output will say "Here are the Plotting devices available:" and a list of available printers will appear. Choose your printer by typing in its name, as indicated in the first column of the list, at the following prompt:
Please choose one (* the name here is the printer already chosen *) When you press return, your plotting configuration will be adjusted properly for the selected printer. This process either creates a .gcgrc file in your main directory location or modifies an existing one to contain your printer selection. If you change your mind in the future, you may edit the file to reflect this change.
