When using a remote email reader to access socrates, some basic settings will need to be made.
It's recommended to use secure TLS/SSL connection and IMAP settings wherever possible.
Any @cgl.ucsf.edu email not sent via socrates can (and sometimes will) be rejected as a forgery.
If you use the SMTP alternate port 587 (i.e., not 25), then your email client will work unaltered at home as well as on campus.
For detailed instructions, choose a version of your email reader from the list below.
| PC | MAC | |
|---|---|---|
| Outlook Express 5.0 | ||
| Eudora | Eudora | |
| Entourage | ||
Also, if you are having problems sending out non-cgl mail through socrates, record the error message you are getting and send it to (or just forward the error to): postmaster@cgl.ucsf.edu
For problems when using an older version of Netscape to access socrates, please contact us .
Please note that although we may not have the answer for every problem that may arise when using these programs, these basic settings should cover nearly all of the requirements. Some issues should be referred to the provider of the program license.
